Installation
Details
This high-capacity solar energy system was designed to deliver full off-grid functionality with the efficiency and flexibility expected from a premium Victron-based configuration.
At the heart of the installation lies a Victron Quattro 48/15000/200 inverter/charger, chosen for its dual AC input management, robust surge handling, and intelligent power switching between solar, grid, and generator sources.
The system draws solar power from fifteen JA Solar 545 W Mono PERC Half-Cell MBB panels, providing a total array of roughly 8.1 kWp. Two Victron SmartSolar MPPTs — models 250/100-TR and 150/60-TR — control generation efficiency across multiple strings, ensuring balanced charge delivery under varying irradiance.
Energy is stored in four Pylontech UP5000 lithium batteries for a combined 20 kWh capacity, configured via a Victron Lynx Distributor for system safety and CAN-bus communication. This configuration ensures accurate state-of-charge tracking and long-term stability across thousands of cycles.
System management and visibility are handled by the Victron Color Control GX paired with a Wi-Fi module, providing live monitoring through the Victron VRM Portal.
The array and power circuits are protected by dedicated AC/DC distribution boards, PV lightning protection kits, and lockable isolators, keeping the installation compliant with SANS electrical standards.
Commissioning included complete functional testing, grounding verification, and issue of a Certificate of Compliance.
This project showcases VICSA’s attention to design, performance balance, and clean execution — resulting in a system that quietly maintains full energy independence every day.
